New Pcounter Port

Pcounter have made a new Port ready, but it’s not included in the main download package because the Migration Utility and Port Wizard have not yet been completed.

The new Pcounter Port integrates all 4 protocols (Appsocket/RAW, LPR, Parallel, OtherPrinter) of the current Pcounter Ports into one package. The 4 current Pcounter ports will eventually be replaced by this port.

Changes and improvements:

  • Page counts can be retrieved from most network printers via SNMP. These page counts reflect exactly what has come out of the printer.
  • Color page counts can be retrieved from many color printers, meaning that charges for color will be made for only the color pages printed in the job. HP Color LaserJets, Xerox [WorkCentre, WorkCentre Pro, recent Phasers], Konica/Minolta [bizhub, magicolor], Epson color laser printers have been tested. If you have a color laser or MFP not listed here and would like to count color pages in Pcounter, please contact us and we will work with you on extending the port capabilities for your printer.
  • Printer status can be checked via SNMP before allowing the job to start.
  • Ports can be created and modified via standard Printer Properties in terminal sessions. (No more "The request is not supported" errors!)
  • Port names can now be specified.
  • Raw/9100 and LPR protocols can be tested during the port configuration to verify proper communication.

Still to come:

  • Load balancing will be integrated into the port, instead of in the Rules section of the Pcounter printer configuration.
  • Printer SNMP status check will be extended to move jobs to other print queues if the printer is down.

Requires Pcounter 2.14.
